Our origins

The origin of Bodegas Familia Osaba is born in the vineyard, as it could not be otherwise. The first stone was laid by our founder, Francisco Osaba, when in 1964 he inherited a small vineyard in Rioja Alavesa that had belonged to the family for several decades.

Passionate about viticulture, and driven by the rise of Rioja wines, Francisco Osaba decided to undertake and began to produce his first wines in the cellars of the family home, which years later would become some of the most popular in the region.

At the beginning of the 70s, the construction of a small production winery began. Bodegas Familia Osaba is born.

FROM WINEGROWERS TO EXPORTERS

During the following years the market continues to evolve, becoming more demanding. The rise of Rioja wine means that competition is increasing and this forces us to reinvent ourselves.

The entry of the second generation at the beginning of the 90s comes hand in hand with our international expansion, a market that was very little exploited by the wineries of that time and in which we were pioneers.

Our brands began to be sold in the main markets in Europe and America, establishing commercial relationships that are still in force today. The winery’s staff is multiplied by four and the first international successes are achieved with numerous awards and recognitions.

DIVERSIFY TO CONTINUE GROWING

The entry of the third generation in 2012 marks a turning point in the group’s strategy. Our production, which until then had been mainly concentrated in Rioja, increased considerably with the acquisition of vineyards in other wine-growing regions and with the establishment of commercial agreements with producer partners.

Our winery, which had started in a small cellar of the family house, became in a few years an international group, with diversified production in several regions of Spain.

During this process we have never given up our values, those that led Francisco Osaba to fall in love with a small vineyard and begin producing a product that we continue to feel proud of today.

THREE GENERATIONS DEDICATED TO WINEGROWING

TRADITION ADAPTED TO A NEW ERA

Viticulture is constantly evolving, but our values remain unchanged. Respect for tradition, combined with new techniques in the vineyard and winery have allowed us to continue evolving without losing our unique style.

COMMITTED TO SUSTAINABILITY

For our family, respect for the vineyard and sustainable practices have never been a decision, but rather a work philosophy. Only by respecting the vineyard we manage to reflect the essence of our terroir.
